1 Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,
2 Oh that I were as in months past, As in the days when God preserved me;
3 When his candle shined upon my head, And when by his light I walked through darkness;
4 As I was in the days of my youth, When the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;
5 When the Almighty was yet with me, When my children were about me;
6 When I washed my steps with butter, And the rock poured me out rivers of oil;
Introduction
Introduction
Job was a great example of a Suffering Servant.
1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
God saw it, and brought it up to satan:
8 And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
Job then becomes an example of a servant of God who was patient in suffering.
11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
God says four things about Job:
Blameless
Upright
Reverent
Holy
Have you ever wondered how Job got to be a blameless man? We focus a lot on what Job went through, but what I want to know is, how do you get in such a place in your life that you could be trusted to go through those things and not turn your back on God?
How do you become Danny or Vicki Ward? How do you get to be a pillar of the church? By being a good steward, a faithful servant of your youth.
1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
How can our youth become faithful stewards of their youth? How can we as parents be faithful stewards of youth?
1. Choose Godly Habits
1. Choose Godly Habits
Job 1:5 tells us that Job was faithful to the sacrifice.
If you want to be a faithful servant be faithful to the sacrifice.
Your spiritual strength will depend on how much you feed on the Word and exercise your faith.
9 BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word.
Bro. Branham at an altar call:
And I pray, God, that You’ll bless these who are standing. They’re honest and sincere enough to stand. I pray that You’ll give to them the desire of their heart.
If it’s lust, if it’s indifference, if it’s fear, if it’s anything that they have need of, Lord, cleanse their hearts and souls this day, and may they go from here a changed person.
May, if they been neglecting reading the Bible, may they read It every day, for it is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceedeth from the mouth of God.”
Grant it, Lord. May they read It, and live on It, and thrive on It, and pattern their life to the Word of God, and they shall have the promise of God. 57-0613A - "God Keeps His Word"
We exercise our faith by going to the house of the Lord.
I asked several of our elders, what is the best thing you can do for your kids to see them stay in church? they all replied “be faithful to go to church”.
4 One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.
Notice now, Jesus, invested with all the powers of God, but, when He met Satan, He never used any of His powers. He only referred to the Word! He did. He said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.’”
Then how can you say you can stay home and be just as good a Christian as you would be at church? You can’t do it. Read the Word! The Holy Spirit feeds on the Word. The Bible is God’s spiritual diet for His Church.
And the Holy Spirit is the One Who brings It to you and places It in the heart, and with thanksgiving you water It. And every Divine promise will produce just exactly what God said it would do. It’s got to. It’s His Word, and It’s Life. 57-0420 - "The Entombment"
If satan can get you separated he attacks you. We should take every opportunity to get our kids with others who believe like they do.
I’ve watched many times, the wolf after the deer. And if he can catch a little deer out to itself, that’s the one they work on. There’s a lesson. If he can catch a deer away from the herd, then he—that that’s what the devil wants to do.
So to you, young ladies, he wants you to go out with a boy that’s not a Christian. To you, young men, he wants you to go out with some little painted Jezebel that’s not a Christian. That’s where he wants to break you up. That’s where he wants to sock his teeth into you.
And this little deer will get out to itself, away from the herd. That’s the one the wolf works on. And to you, old man or woman, when you separate yourself from believers…People say, “I can stay at home, be just as good a Christian as I can at church.” You can’t.
The Bible said, “Not forsake our assemble ourselves together, and that much more as we see the time coming.”
If you’re a Christian, you long to go where other Christians are, and fellowship with other Christians. So you cannot stay away from church and live the same life.
You can’t do it, because it’s like, “I’m hungry, but I’ll never go to a table. I just…I’ll never eat. I ain’t going to do it.” See? You’ve got to go and feed on the Word of God, and fellowship one with another.
We need one another more now than we ever did need each other, is now. When you get yourself singled out from the rest of them making yourself just a little different, you don’t want to associate with them because they believe this, and don’t want to associate with that, you’re getting on dangerous ground, right then, keeping away from church.
Find the one of your choice, and remain there, and be a Christian brother to all of them. That’s the way to be a real Christian. Then we’ve got fellowship, protection; people love you and pray for you. 60-0304 - "Thirsting For Life"
If your parents won’t go, you go anyway. Dare to be different. Stir up that desire in your heart for the people of God.
Make church non-negotiable. (Burger King)
2. Make a Covenant with your Eyes
2. Make a Covenant with your Eyes
1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; Why then should I think upon a maid?
What do you desire? When the woman comes down the street dressed like that, and you men turn your head, gaze around like that, you’re not using a thinking man’s Filter.
Because, when you do that, you are committing adultery, for the Filter said, “Whosoever looketh upon a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already.”
Turn your head, thinking man. Get away from her. She’s not pretty. She’s a serpent; that’s right, twists like one, acts like one, stings like one. Keep away from her. 65-0822E - "A Thinking Man's Filter"
9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.
It’s better to be without a phone than to live like the world. Do what it takes to be a Christian. Wrestle with the Word until you get a name change.
Sometimes you may think that it doesn’t pay off. But it certainly does pay off. It’s got to pay off. You cannot be going east and west at the same time. You can’t be going right and left at the same time. You may think you’re going the other way, but you’re not.
So if you’ll set your mind and eyes, and motives and objectives, in life, on the right thing, you’ve got to come out on the right thing. You can’t fail. See?
That’s the only way. No matter how much you’re tempted to do the other side, turn your head from it and do what’s right. And you know you’re right; you feel better, and you are better. And that’s just all there is to it, you got…you’re going to come out right. 63-1114 - "Influence"
3. Look for Opportunity to do Good
3. Look for Opportunity to do Good
15 I was eyes to the blind, And feet was I to the lame.
16 I was a father to the poor: And the cause which I knew not I searched out.
How can I help? How can I be faithful? How can I be an example? Your parents shouldn’t have to make you pay your tithes and offering, or show up on a work day.
12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
Others have had an opportunity, let me find mine.
Everyone wants to sing a special, what about helping someone who needs it? what about work day at church?
You will only be a teenager for Six years. That’s only 2190 days. What are you doing with that time?
One day you will wish you were young again, like Job.
Today you stand at a crossroads. You get to decide who you will be.
To the young people, I would say this. If I could…This morning, after a birthday yesterday, of forty-eight years in this life. Twenty-some odd years of that, about twenty-four years, I’ve spent for the Lord Jesus. As a boy of about twenty-three years old, I started preaching the Gospel.
If there is any regrets that I have, any regret; if I could touch a button, this morning, and go back to the fabulous age of about sixteen or seventeen, I would only want to do it for one thing, that is, to serve Christ. That’s what it means, to serve Christ alone. God Who knows my heart, knows that’s true. Serve Christ, alone.
I have never seen anything, or thought anything, that ever compared with this blessed anchor of Christ in my heart. I don’t know nothing. I have sailed the seas. I’ve flew through the airs. I’ve seen all the sights the world has. I’ve seen the seven mysteries of the world, I’ve seen the seven outstanding sights, rather, of the world.
I have seen all the mountain sides, pretty near, of the world. I’ve…I’m a hunter; I’ve hunted in all kinds of nations. I’ve done everything; fished. I’ve rode horses. I’ve ranched. I’ve done everything that I knowed to do. And I’ll say this, that there is, all of it put together, won’t make one little dot, to the love of the Lord Jesus Christ.
What could I do? What could…Oh, yes, that’s these little kiddies here. I’ve had my little girl friends, and slicked my hair down. And put my windshield back on my car, and went out with my date. I thought…But it just didn’t satisfy. There is something you’re lacking, all the time.
I’ve seen the girl with the pretty brown eyes, and it would…You know how you would feel, as young folks. I thought that was just it. “If I could only have the date with this young lady, it would just…it would just take all my anxiety. That, that would just settle it.” I’d have a date with her, and be out with her, fifteen minutes, and looking for someone else. It just doesn’t satisfy. Oh, there is nothing.
But, that blessed hour! Blessed be His Name! Down in a little old coal shed, in a back of a building, kneeling on an old grass sack, in an alley, where I knelt down there in the wet ground, and said, “Lord Jesus, can You do something for me?”
That’s when a peace that passes all understanding, twenty-four years ago, anchored here in this heart of mine. And it’s worth all there is in the whole world. I’ve never seen nothing to compare with it.
I trusted Him in the hours of sickness and accident. I’ve trusted Him when the airplanes was spinning in the storm, and you didn’t know what. I said, “Lord Jesus, are You finished with me? If not, straighten this plane out.” And see her smooth around, to her right condition.
I’ve stood in the clinics where the best of doctors in the nations, to…And they’d look at me and say, “Just a few more minutes to live; he is going.” And when the best doctors that could be got for me. And I said, “Lord Jesus, are You through with me?” And all of a sudden, I was normally back to myself.
Oh, amazing grace, how sweet that sound! How I wish I had tongues to explain what it is. It’s too great for the human mind. Take my word. Don’t you take a substitute, friend. Don’t take a substitute.
Don’t just go and say, “Well, now, I do this. I tell you what, I’m a pretty good person.” Don’t rely on that. Don’t do it. Just stay there until Something just reaches out, takes away all the sin, and puts a kiss there that just burns. And when the trials come, you don’t have to wonder if I’m going to do that, it just Something holds there.
And as a middle-aged man now, I’ve got to come down and think this, that one of these days I got to go. If Jesus tarries, I got to go. I don’t know what it’ll be when I get down to the end of the road. I don’t know.
I’m not trusting upon my preaching. No, sir. No, I’m not trusting upon the things I’ve done. O God, no. Oh, let that be far from me. I’ve done things, since I been a preacher, neglected and done this and that.
I don’t want to trust in nothing, that. No, sir. I don’t want to say, “Lord, I’ve won over a million souls to You.” That has nothing to do with it; not a thing. The only thing I’m trusting, is His grace, His promise, His Word.
Lord, You’ve said…Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I’ll fear no evil. You said, “I’ll never leave thee nor forsake thee.” When I’m pressing that pillow, and the cold death sweat is running off of my brow, He’ll be there. Just as sure as I’m standing here, He’ll be there.
When I preach my last sermon, close the Bible and walk away the last time, the work is over; He’ll be there. Yes, sir. And just as sure as I believe that He is Coming; when He comes again, I’ll be there, too. Yes, sir. Not because that I merit. It’s because He has, for me. And I accept it upon the basis of His Eternal Word.
And I know, by that, there was something happened. Something happened. Not how much noise I can make, how well I can say. If I was the greatest preacher in the world, if I had raised the dead, whatever, that has nothing to do with it.
It’s because something happened. Something taken place in here. It taken all the old jealousy, and bitterness, and evil, and everything, from my heart. And now I just love Him, day and night. Something happened. I want to see Him, someday. I want you, too, also. 57-0407M - "God Keeps His Word"
